Explanation of the 3 risk categories and standard piktograms.

Directive on personal safety products 89/686/EEC
The directive gives two classes of gloves, which fulfil two risk levels: Minimal and deadly or irrevocable risk. A risk which falls between these two levels, can be described as medium big risk. To fulfil the directive 89/656/EØF the risk level must be determined and gloves of a suitable class must be chosen. A labelling system has been developed for making it easier to choose.
Gloves of simple construction – only for minimal risk
Manufacturers can test and certify gloves of simple construction by themselves. Gloves which protect against low level risks such janitor work.
Gloves of medium complicated construction – for medium big risk
Gloves which are constructed for protection against medium big risk. For instance gloves for ordinary handling, where good cut, carve and puncture resistance is required. Are submitted to an independent test and certification by a test laboratory. It is only these approved laboratories which are allowed to issue a CE label. Without such the gloves must not be sold. Each test laboratory has its own ID number. The name and Address of the test laboratory which certifies the product must appear on directions accompanying the gloves.
Gloves of complicated construction – for irrevocable or deadly risk
Gloves which are constructed to protect against the highest risk level, such as chemicals, must also be tested and certified by a test laboratory. Furthermore must the quality securing system used by the manufacturer guarantee the products uniformity is controlled independently.
The agency, which performs this evaluation, has an ID number that must appear next to the CE label.
